Rhinebeck United Methodist Church
Bible Study - The Prophet Amos
Starting Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 7:30PM and Sunday January 10, 2010 at 10:15AM we will begin a study on the Old Testament book of Amos.
According to the New International Version Study Bible, the Prophet Amos was active in ministry from about 760-750BC. He was a shepherd who made his living tending livestock and fig trees. The Jewish nations were prosperous at that time, being both militarily and politically secure. Ironically, being in God's good graces only served to increase idolatry and immorality in both Israel and Judah. The LORD lost His patience with the peoples' haughtiness, unfaithfulness and lack of gratitude. It was Amos' task to tell them that God's holiness demands justice.
